Our Philosophy

We help companies disrupt, responsibly.

We design innovative, bespoke governance solutions to help some of the world’s leading companies identify and navigate moral quandaries.

We work with our clients to crystallize their core values and structure intellectual frameworks for ethical decision-making.

We build institutions and governance mechanisms that turn ethical ideas into principled solutions. Our clients use these tools to operationalize their values, answer hard questions, and make key decisions transparent to stakeholders and the public.

Improved ethical decision-making strengthens corporate culture allowing our clients to concentrate on building exemplary businesses. Deliberative reasoning helps our clients build trust with stakeholders and other communities by avoiding ad hoc and contradictory decisions.

At Ethical Compass, we believe the best way to add value is to add values.

Helping companies navigate ethics in a fast changing world.

Recent Projects
Conceived and architected the Facebook (now Meta) Oversight Board, to create a fair process for adjudicating complex and divisive content moderation issues.
Created an intellectual framework and governance structure for a major online retailer to allow it to determine what types of products it should refrain from selling even though it is legal to sell them (such as white supremacist or Nazi paraphernalia).
Worked with a major biotech company to create an independent entity to ensure that the company would carefully consider the impact of its technology and strategy on Nature.  Created an intellectual framework to provide guidance to the independent entity as it considered how to represent Nature’s interest.
Created the Guiding Principles for an oversight committee for a frontier Artificial Intelligence company.  Worked with inside and outside counsel to develop the legal, governance and intellectual framework for the committee, to ensure that the AI lab’s work would be in the long term interest of humanity (and not only the short term interest of its shareholders).
